Derek Hill profile

  • Derek "Del" Hill
  • Chairman

    TVCL Club representative

Joined Club in what was previously known as Old Meadonians back in 1981 and have been around since.

What were your main achievements for HWCC & Seniors?

Starting in the Seniors Third Team I soon realised what a high standard our 1sts and 2nds played at.  Over the years I captained the 3s quite a few times including getting us promoted from Division 6 in the TVCL.

The following year another skipper continued the promotion and the club had 2nds and 3rds in Level 4 of the TVCL There were probably only two clubs who had a 3rd XI in a higher division: Reading and Wokingham. Clubs who had been around for donkeys’ years. Quite an achievement for the club.

In the mid 2000s I ran the Sunday 2s as a Youth Development team before Middlesex even thought of it!

    What about Juniors at HWCC?

In the early 1990s I helped create a Colts section in Chiswick when, over the years we had 8 or 9 youngsters play for Middlesex, including 2 in one year in the U15s. Derek ran the Juniors for 25 years when lack of help and a falloff in numbers attending led to the disbanding of the Chiswick based group.

What are your favourite memories of the club?

My fondest memory was in 2004 when our Chiswick U13s won the Middlesex Indoor Cup beating Harrow St Marys with one of the finest displays of controlled big hitting ever seen at that level. Chasing 128 and hitting 10 sixes in 10.5 overs having been 70-1 off 8.  Mega !

What do you hope to see for HWCC?

I would love to see the club get back to where we were back in the early 2000s when we ran &
